From a single-screen HMI for a new EV to a complex, multi-system integration for a global OEM, Gravitonic is your expert engineering partner.

In Automotive, a Bad HMI Is More Than an Annoyance—It's a Liability.

The in-vehicle experience is the brand. A slick, responsive HMI can define a car and win customers. But a slow, confusing, or distracting interface is a PR nightmare, a warranty cost, and a critical safety hazard.

Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs face immense pressure to innovate, but the challenges are unique to this industry.

Driver Distraction & Cognitive Overload

This is the #1 challenge. A cluttered, multi-tap UI pulls the driver's eyes and mind from the road. Minimizing cognitive load isn't just "good UX"—it's a fundamental safety requirement.

A Laggy UI = A "Cheap" Brand

In today's market, the HMI is the perceived quality of the vehicle. A slow boot time, laggy screen transitions, or a buggy interface make a $70,000 vehicle feel cheap and unreliable.

The "Siloed System" Problem

The instrument cluster, the center-stack IVI, and the ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) are often developed by different teams or suppliers. When they don't communicate seamlessly, the driver gets a disjointed, frustrating, and confusing experience.

Gravitonic's Full-Vehicle HMI Development Services

We are your specialist HMI development partner, from the first concept sketch to the final, optimized software that ships in the vehicle. We design the entire digital cockpit ecosystem.

1. In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) Design & Development

We build the center-stack experience that defines your brand. Our expertise covers navigation, media, climate control, and seamless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We focus on creating an intuitive, brand-forward experience that is powerful yet simple to use while in motion.

2. Digital Cockpit & Instrument Cluster Design

This is a safety-critical component. Gravitonic designs digital instrument clusters that present vital information—speed, warnings, and ADAS visualizations—with absolute clarity. We adhere to ISO 26262 (ASIL) guidelines to ensure your cluster is functionally safe, reliable, and distraction-free.

3. Head-Up Display (HUD) & AR Design

We design next-generation HUDs that keep the driver's eyes on the road. We specialize in clear, minimal UI for traditional HUDs and are at the forefront of designing Augmented Reality (AR-HUD) experiences that overlay navigation and safety data onto the real world.

4. Full HMI System Integration

We are the "glue" that makes the entire digital cockpit feel like one cohesive system. Our engineers ensure the IVI, cluster, HUD, and ADAS components communicate flawlessly, providing a unified experience for the driver.

Why Gravitonic? We Speak Automotive.

A web agency can't build an HMI. A generic IT consultant can't ensure functional safety. Gravitonic is an engineering-first partner that understands the unique technical landscape of the automotive industry.

Safety-First Design (ISO 26262)

We design to reduce cognitive load. Our UX process is rooted in Human Factors and functional safety principles. We understand ISO 26262 and ASIL-B requirements for instrumentation, ensuring our designs are safe, verifiable, and certifiable.

We Speak the Vehicle Bus (CAN, LIN)

We're not just app developers. We are embedded engineers who speak your language. We build HMIs that integrate directly with the vehicle's core systems via CAN bus, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet. We understand AUTOSAR architecture and how to work within it.

Uncompromising Performance

A 3-second lag on a map zoom is unacceptable. We are masters of performance optimization for automotive. We build on high-performance frameworks like Qt, Kanzi, and Crank Storyboard and optimize at the system level for fast boot times and a fluid, 60-fps experience.

A Seamless Brand Experience

Your brand's identity should be consistent across every screen. We create scalable design systems that ensure your unique visual language and interaction model are deployed cohesively across the IVI, cluster, and HUD, delivering a premium, unified feel.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What's the difference between Android Auto and Android Automotive (AAOS)?

Android Auto is an app that projects from the user's phone onto the car's IVI screen. Android Automotive (AAOS) is the full operating system for the car itself, controlling everything from media and nav to climate. Gravitonic develops HMI solutions for both.

What is ISO 26262 (ASIL) and why does it matter for HMI?

ISO 26262 is the international standard for functional safety in road vehicles. ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) ranks the risk of a component's failure. An instrument cluster, which displays critical warnings and speed, has a high ASIL rating. Our HMI design process incorporates these safety requirements from day one.

Can you work with our existing Tier 1 supplier?

Yes. We often act as a specialized HMI/UX partner for Tier 1s or OEMs. We can augment your in-house team, bringing our specific expertise in UI/UX design and HMI software optimization to accelerate your project and improve the final product.

How do you test for driver distraction?

We use a multi-faceted approach. We begin with industry best practices (e.g., NHTSA guidelines) during the design phase. We then move to iterative user testing with interactive prototypes, and for final validation, we can facilitate formal usability studies and in-vehicle simulator testing.
